May 19 wedding: Success!

On the scene at this weekend’s wedding!  Everything was beautiful, but had no time to snap any photos!  Here is the one and only picture with the gorgeous cake, made by Beth at Harmony House.  Image

Busy Spring

Oh, busy spring.  I am furiously planning 2 weddings, working full-time at my day job, preparing presentations, tending to my neighborhood association presidential duties, desperately seeking a violin teacher, practicing my French and my yoga, walking my dogs, entering art shows, and cooking lots of healthy, delicious foods!!!  Oh yeah, I picked up a position as chair of a committee last night, almost forgot.  Soon to come: many, many pics of Plans by M.M. stylings!!!  You just wait.  Here is a sample of one of my new pieces…yet to be titled.

Wedding Favors

Wedding Favors

Here’s a unique and environmentally-conscious wedding idea: give trees to your guests as a wedding favor!  You can order tiny trees for $3 through Arbor Day Foundation, and they will even customize a label for your individual trees!  What a great idea, huh?

Peep it here.

Design Shoot: Apples and Icing

It’s been a while since I posted anything interesting that is attributable to my own creative fancy.  For that, I apologize, and hope to make up with my first design shoot.  Here’s to the coming of SpringTime!!!

Happy Planning,

Oh, if only…

New York City was Oklahoma City…

This is one of the many reasons why:

What I wouldn’t do to have Amy Merrick at my corner flower shop, selling me a $25 valentines bouquet…

Vintage Dishes

I have found something that I MUST share with the group: Antiquaria.  It is an Austin shop of vintage and antique dishes!  And I am in love.  The best part?  You can REGISTER with Antiquaria for your wedding!  So now, instead of registering for your “vintage dishes” at Anthro, you can register with Antiquaria for your ACTUAL vintage dishes.  Cool.  And they even have The Fine China sets.  For example…

And some casual dining pieces…

I’m telling you, I’m in love.  Can I re-register?  Renew some vows?  Maybe just start an individual registry, for any old occasion for which I might receive a gift?

Speaking of, we did something a little unique for our registry.  Instead of registering for The Fine China, we registered with a local potter who made our stuff to order.  …And, for much, much cheaper than The Fine China.  This fellow goes by the biz name of Fat City Clay, and is located in Tulsa.  I would highly recommend him.  We just came up with an appropriate way of saying that we would like monetary donations for our dinnerware set, which was being made by a local artisan.  People loved the idea!  They were very responsive–and, not to mention, a lot of people want to give money, yet worry that in doing so they appear lazy or insincere.  Most of our guests were glad to have a specific fund to be donating to, and I think it assuaged those feelings.  So, go forth and get creative with your registries!!!  I’ve seen people raise money for charities or college funds (which melts my heart).  There are sites where donations can be made for honeymoon funds, and the list goes on and on and on.

Happy planning!  More to come soon.  In the meantime, visit this site and this (Issue No. 18…ideas to the max).

The Cake.

Earlier today I was at a bridal show with my favorite (only) client–the beautiful/wonderful/best-friend-ever: Sasha–and we chatted with a few vendors in the OKC area.  There was a delightful caker (I think bakers should be called cakers when acting in their wedding cake-baking capacity), the owner of this cakery, Madison’s On Main.

#1: what a lovely name this cakery has chosen (hehe), and #2: what beautiful cakes they make!!!  I am QUITE taken by these works of art.  Prices are very comparable, considering the caliber of work this cakery is doing.  Photos taken from http://madisonsonmainstreet.com/.

Like, SERIOUSLY CUTE, RIGHT?!?!?

So, after a while of talking with the lovely Donna of Madison’s On Main (who is very delightful), I began reminiscing about my old love, Harmony House in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Beth, the owner made the most adorable cakes for our wedding, back in June 2011!!  She does the most lovely work, and at quite comparable prices as well!  Just look at this beautiful tablescape of cakes that we dreamed up (photographs courtesy of Sarah Warmker Photography; click on them to enlarge and see detail):

I described some craziness to Beth about what I wanted, and she immediately responded: yes, Swiss dots?  Different shapes and sizes?  Of course, no problem!  I mean, do you KNOW how hard it is sometimes to talk to a stressed-out bride  about her uncertain, hairbrained scheme regarding a very intricate part of the wedding ceremony?  And yes, I changed my mind in the middle of the process and she had no hiccoughs about it!  It is really nice to have total success when dealing with vendors for your wedding–both because the service provider is personable and willing to communicate with you AND because the final product is well worth the money, time, and effort going into it!

Happy planning, and happy 2012!
